Mada-9, the first supercar made in Afghanistan, becomes a social media sensation.
Today, Armaghan Pourian is back in his homeland of Afghanistan. He has been living in Germany since he was 18 years old. But now that he’s back home. He’s decided to make a car Mada-9. The reason? It’s cheaper here than in Germany and it takes less time to build one.
After 16 years, Armaghan Pourian returns to his homeland.
In a country where the unemployment rate is 30%. Armaghan Pourian has made a lot of money.
He was born in Afghanistan, but moved to Sweden at the age of 9. He studied economics and finance at university. Worked as an investment banker for six years. Then set out on his own. Now he’s one of Sweden’s most successful businessmen with an estimated net worth of $100 million (100 million SEK).
Pourian is also an avid car enthusiast: he owns several Ferraris, and Lamborghinis. Other rare supercars. He even sold his Ferrari F40 for $4 million last year.
When asked about his dream car, Pourian said it would be something like this: “It needs to go from zero-to-60 mph in less than 3 seconds flat.”
They’re costly, but they don’t have much content, he says.
Armaghan Pourian is the founder of Mada-9, an Afghan-made sports car. The company recently launched its first model, which is priced at $150 million.
But it doesn’t look like he’s made a fortune yet—he says he’s lost $30 million so far and that his cost-cutting measures include hiring only local labor and using scrap to construct parts instead of buying them new.
He says he also wants to make sure that everyone who buys one gets their money back if there’s any sort of problem with their car (for example: if you get stuck in traffic or fall off your motorcycle). “If we have problems with our cars,” says Pourian, “we will offer a lifetime guarantee.”
So he starts to ask questions about what kind of cars are produced in Afghanistan
As you can imagine, the first question he had to ask himself was: What kind of car do I want to make?
The only sports car produced in his country is available for $10,000. He wanted to make a cheap car with good performance and at the same time affordable for the average Afghan.
He is told that the only sports car produced in his country is available for $10,000.
When he hears that the only sports car produced in his country is available for $10,000, he decides to buy one of them.
The Mada-9 is a 3.5-liter V8 engine driven by a six-speed manual transmission that produces 400 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque; it can go from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds with an acceleration time hovering around 2 seconds per mile. The car has a top speed of 200 mph (or 320 km/h).
I thought why not? Why not make a cheap car with good performance? he adds.

Armaghan Pourian has been working on this for years, and since 2002 he has dedicated his life to creating the best supercar in Afghanistan. He created Mada-9 in 2010, but it wasn’t until 2015 that he decided to enter into production by selling off shares of the company to investors.
The first vehicle will be ready by end of this year or early next year, according to Pourian who says that there are some technical challenges ahead; however these should be overcome because if done right then this could change everything about how people see Afghanistan!
Conclusion
I think that this is a great step for Afghanistan. With my country’s limited resources, I can only hope to build a small number of cars that are affordable for locals and make people happy with them.
