It was carried out by a group of heavily armed terrorists led by Maulana Fazlullah. This school is one of the most famous educational institutes in Pakistan. It has been educating students for many years now.

The attack took place in a school and killed 148 people. It was carried out by terrorists belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.
The TTP was formed in 2007 with the aim of creating an Islamic state based on Sharia law. In 2014 it announced that it would be carrying out attacks against Pakistani security forces. As well as civilians who had criticized. The Taliban’s rule over Swat Valley where they had seized control after ousting government forces from their positions there in 2009–10.
